Overview

Pandora Radio is a website that allows users to listen to music free of cost. The website works by allowing users to create different radio stations. One creates a radio station by suggesting the name of an artist (or band) or the title of a song that one would like to listen to. The website avoids violating copyright laws by playing music that is similar to the suggested artist or song. In other words, a user cannot suggest a song or artist and hear it immediately. However, one can hope for the possibility that a the radio station will eventually play a particular song or artist. The website is advertisement-based, and every once in a while a brief advertisement will interrupt the music.
Pandora Radio allows users to pause songs. It also allows users to give feedback in order to influence what types of songs will be played next. Users give feedback to individual songs by having the choice to press a "thumbs up" button which indicates that the current song is good and that Pandora should play more songs similar to it. Users can also choose to press the "thumbs down" button which indicates that the current song is bad and that Pandora should not play songs similar to it. Users can also choose to skip songs they do not like. Pandora Radio only allows one to skips a certain amount of songs in a certain amount of time. However, one can always avoid this limitation by simply creating a new station.
One feature of Pandora Radio is that the first several lines of the lyrics of the current song are shown and the user can press a button for the entire lyrics. Also, Facebook has a presence on the website. The website will tell you if one of your Facebook friends likes an artist you are listening to. In this way, Pandora connects people to their friends and allows them to see what their friends are listening to.
Pandora Radio is extremely popular and successful. According to Wikipedia, as of March 2010, Pandora had 700,000 tracks in its library and 48 million users who listened for an average of 11.6 hours per month.
